As a wedding planner, I am constantly inspired by the unique love stories that unfold before me. Each couple brings their own vision and personality to their special day.
When I was approached by Amy, a talented artist, and Matt, her groom-to-be, to plan their fairytale fall wedding at The Colony Club, I knew I was in for a truly magical experience.
With the bride’s love for maximalist decor, a captivating fall color palette, and a creative blend of mixed textures, this wedding was destined to be an extraordinary celebration of love and artistry.
The wedding party kicked off the festivities at the stunning Book Cadillac Westin Hotel. The bride & groom squads each enjoyed their time together in their own suites. It was the perfect mix of luxury and good vibes, making for an unforgettable start to an unforgettable day.

Amy & Matt gathered so many cool details for the photographer to work with! Photos of loved ones, details and textures from their wedding design, their wedding rings, & other mementos made for some gorgeous and sentimental photographs.

Amy & Matt recognized the importance of a stress-free and seamless getting ready process, so they made the decision to hire a wedding day concierge through Christa Graham Weddings & Events. This wise choice ensured that every member of the wedding party could relax and fully enjoy the magical moments leading up to the ceremony.
Their concierge, Anita, was a true superhero, taking care of every detail and providing assistance with a wide range of tasks. From coordinating the arrival and departure times of vendors to ensuring the smooth flow of hairstylists and makeup artists, Anita expertly managed the bustling atmosphere. She thoughtfully attended to the bridal party’s needs, making sure the room stayed tidy and helping to pin on boutonnieres.
Additionally, the concierge flawlessly handled any last-minute emergencies, such as misplaced accessories or forgotten bouquets. Her expert assistance extended to managing the timeline, organizing transportation arrival, and even offering words of encouragement and support.
With a wedding day concierge by their side, the couple and their wedding party could relax, knowing that every little thing was taken care of, allowing them to savor every precious moment of the day!

Amy & Matt walked a short distance from The Westin for their private first look. Then, they joined the rest of their wedding party in a trolley to take pre-ceremony photos around Detroit. Swipe below to see a selection of those images!
The Colony Club, with its rich history and timeless elegance, provided the perfect backdrop for this fairytale affair. Its grand architecture, ornate chandeliers, and luxurious ballroom added an air of opulence to the wedding festivities. Amy & Matt took a few private moments to enjoy the setting before their guests arrived.

Our bride, an artist at heart, had an eye for detail and a penchant for maximalist aesthetics. (More is more, she said!) She wanted her wedding to be an immersive experience, a feast for the senses that showcased her love for color and creativity. The space was adorned with an abundance of richly colored blooms, cascading greenery, and exquisite tapestries, creating an enchanting atmosphere that took everyone’s breath away. The family worked together to create a memory table of loved ones that had passed away, but were there in spirit.

With the wedding taking place in the heart of autumn, the color palette embraced the hues of the season. Warm tones of burgundy, deep oranges, and vibrant yellows intertwined with touches of gold and hints of deep greenery, evoking the changing leaves outside. Every element, from the floral arrangements to the table settings, was carefully curated to complement and enhance the fall-inspired ambiance.
To add depth and visual interest, the bride’s love for mixed textures was incorporated throughout the wedding decor. Rich jewel toned floral adorned the tables, contrasting beautifully against the shimmering metallic candle holders & pumpkins. Intricately patterned table numbers (designed by the bride herself!) and soft pastel floral created a cozy space for guests to relax and enjoy the celebration. From the velvety petals of the floral arrangements to the intricate lace details on the bridal gown, textures played a significant role in transforming the event into a sensory wonderland.

Amy wanted to infuse her personal touch into every aspect of the wedding. The reception area showcased her stunning artwork, displayed as the detailwork in the table numbers, menu, and welcome sign. Photos from Amy & Matt’s long history together were displayed behind their sweetheart table. Every detail was a testament to the bride’s artistic sensibilities, making the wedding an extraordinary expression of her creative spirit.

Matt saw this balcony and immediately knew he wanted their grand entrance to be inspired by Black Panther when T’Challa, Nakia, & Okoye entered the Korean nightclub backed by Kendrick Lamar & The Weeknd’s “Pray for Me”.
(Of course, my Marvel-loving heart LOVED this idea! Wakanda Forever!)
It was also a tribute to the power of cinema, a nod to the groom’s admiration for the Black Panther, and a truly unforgettable highlight that added an extra layer of excitement and wonder to the celebration.
It was a fleeting moment but conveyed the charisma & charm of Amy & Matt.

One of the most cherished moments was when the groom’s mother proudly presented the wedding cakes she had lovingly baked. It was a true labor of love, as she poured her heart and soul into creating the perfect confectionery masterpiece for her son’s special day.
With her years of baking expertise, she skillfully crafted 5 separate tiers of deliciousness! It was a truly special moment, where the groom’s mother not only contributed to the wedding celebration but also shared a piece of her heart through her culinary artistry.

The fairytale fall wedding at The Colony Club in Detroit was a celebration beyond compare.
With its opulent surroundings, maximalist decor, captivating fall color palette, and artistry that permeated every aspect, this wedding will forever be etched in the memories of all who attended.
The bride’s love for textures, her artistic touch, and the infusion of her vibrant personality into the wedding planning process ensured that this event was an unforgettable experience, not only for the couple but for all who witnessed their magical day.
